Ken Fugal joined Nature’s Sunshine Products in 1994 as manager of Research and Development and became the director in 1996. Before working at NSP, Ken spent 25 years working for Bayer Corp. in Elkhart, Ind. From Bayer, Ken brought a strong research and development background to NSP. Under his direction, NSP strengthened new product pilot development, analytical methods development, and instituted a product stability program, which is now a large part of R&D’s product development testing.
“These programs play a critical role in the product development cycle,” says Fugal. “Among other things, they help us produce high-quality products, verify label claims and monitor the appearance of our products, which is the key to brand loyalty.”
Ken also facilitated a substantial increase in lab space, instrumentation, and the number of scientists for the department. These steps helped NSP become a scientific powerhouse among purveyors of natural health products.
Ken has participated in developing some of Synergy’s most successful products, including Mistica, Core Greens, ProArgi-9 Plus and many others. As a member of Synergy’s Medical Advisory Board, Ken will work with marketing and product development to keep abreast of trends in the natural health industry, choose which products to develop and ensure that the ingredients in all new products are pure, uncontaminated and contain the proper levels of active ingredients. Ken holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from BYU and a master’s degree in microbiology from Notre Dame. Synergy welcomes Ken to the board and is confident his addition will make the board stronger than ever.
